Moon Dancing...

Tonight I decided to take Emma swimming just as the sun was setting. We had already spent over an hour in the pool during the afternoon but Emma wanted to go back in after she had a nap & dinner, so in we went. The pool we have in the backyard is one of those PVC pipe ones, 15' diameter & big enough to have a ladder to climb into it. Emma likes to sit or stand on the top of the ladder & jump in to me. This time, she was sitting on the top rung and just started swaying back and forth and bobbing up and down. I asked her what she was doing. Her response... "Dancin fo da Moon!" It amazes me how quickly she is growing and how developed her imagination is becoming.

Chef Emma

First we pour the cornbread mix into a bowl...

Add some eggs and milk...

Then stir, stir, stir!

Lately Emma has taken to wanting to "help" me in the kitchen as I make dinner. Today I had left beans simmering all day to make homemade chili and decided we would have cornbread with it too. Of course Emma wanted to help again. So I let her. She helped grease the pan, opened the boxes herself, and dumped them into the bowl (with only minimal spills). I cracked the eggs into a cup and measured the milk, but she poured them both in and did most of the mixing - other than a couple final stirs to make sure all was combined before I poured it in the pan. So I would consider this Emma's 1st true "cooking" experience... And she did a great job! The cornbread turned out really tasty!

She is growing up so fast and its neat to be able to have her in the kitchen with me and see how excited she gets to be able to help. Emma is just a wonderful daughter and I am so blessed to have her in my life...

Santa Scribbles...

Today was the first day that Emma "drew" something on her own, without a pre-cut shape, template, or coloring book page etc, and described it to me...

We were on our way to a playdate this afternoon and Emma wanted to draw, as usual. So I gave her her notepad and a pen. She drew quietly for a few minutes and then said, "Here you go Mommy." I asked her if she was done and she said "yes." So I reached into the backseat and got the pen and pad she was handing me. I glanced down at the scribble and asked Emma, "Did you make this?" She said "uh-huh" as she nodded, so I asked her what it was. She responded with , "Is ho-ho-ho... Merry mis-mis!" I said, "What?" And she again told me "I daw ho-ho-ho!" So I said "Oh! You drew Santa Claus?" And Emma was so happy that I really understood her and her picture. She just giggled and said "Yes Mommy! Sana Taws! Ho-ho-ho! Merry Mis-mis!" That little girl loves Santa! I love it! Christmas in August... Emma is SO my daughter!

More Breathing Problems...

Emma falling asleep during a breathing treatment. This was around midnight Sunday night/ Monday morning. She had woken up coughing and wheezing, so I told her she could watch Elmo while we used the breathing machine. Even Elmo couldn't keep her awake once she was able to breathe again though.
At the doctor's office on Tuesday. Silly Emma running off with Mommy's sunglasses.

So Emma got sick again this weekend. What started off as the sniffles Sunday morning turned into a full blown cold and asthma attack by Sunday night. She was up all night coughing and gasping for air. We used the nebulizer, but it only seemed to provide temporary relief. By Monday night, I was pretty worried about the way her chest and belly were retracting as she breathed, so we headed to the doctor Tuesday. Yep, I was right... the asthma attack had irritated her lungs enough that it had turned into bronchiolitis again. So now she is on ventolin and an inhaled steroid through the nebulizer, an oral steroid, an antibiotic, and a cough syrup. The funny thing is, in between attacks, Emma was still just her happy self. I just hate having passed this asthma junk down to her...

What's Your Name?

Emma has learned her whole name now. Yesterday evening I was teasing her and asked "Who do you think you are?" Her response... "Emma Marquiss!" Too cute. Now if you ask her who she is, she responds with "Emma Grace." Then I'll ask her "Emma Grace who?" and she tells me "Marquiss!" Emma Grace Marquiss...That's a mouthful for sure!

Back to the Grindstone...

Emma, happy as usual, as I got her out of her carseat this morning on the way into daycare.

Choosing what to play with first. Here, Emma is pivoting around as she decided to go for the giant blocks instead of the slide.

I went back to work Monday which means Emma started back at daycare. We had loved being home together for the past month, so I was a bit concerned about how she would do being dropped off again. Emma is such a champ though! We had been talking about it for a few days in advance... about going back to "school" and seeing Ms. Martha and Ms. Beverly and Mr. Michael etc etc etc. Emma actually seemed excited and kept asking for one of her favorite teachers, Mr. Hairo but, unfortunately, he is on vacation this week. So far she is doing great again. As she is usually the first child dropped off at daycare, Emma gets a LOT of individual attention in the morning from her teachers. And each afternoon, she tells me she had fun and "payed box" (played with blocks) and "ree books!" Sounds like a good day to me!
